Join us for an unusual winter canoe trip where the heating comes from below! The Hévíz Stream is a path that is unaffected by the changing seasons, unaffected by the bitter cold of winter and can be paddled all winter long. Here, the water lilies bloom in blue, pink and yellow all year round – the stream owes this special character to the fact that it is fed by the springs of the Hévíz thermal lake, so that temperatures can reach up to 25 degrees Celsius in the area near the lake!

Scheduled tour dates for the 2026/27 winter season: dates will be announced around October 2026.

➜ Tour description

Hévíz Lake – Fenékpuszta

We’re meeting at 9:00 in the morning at Lake Hévíz car park, where we will hand out all of the equipment needed for the tour, give a throrough paddling technique training and we’re off to start the winter adventure in the mysterious mist!

We’ll paddle for a pleasant 2,5-3 hours along this wonderful stream, with plenty of marveling, flowers, fish, and a little break halfway through. We’ll admire the beautiful water lilies up close, paddle between islands of plants, locks and, if we’re lucky, we’ll even get to meet the birds that spend the winter at Lake Kis-Balaton. We will get to the end of our tour at around 14:00, where we will take the drivers back to their cars (which were left at the meet-up point), while the rest of us can relax and have a nice cup of tea by the stream.

➜ Good to know

Dates: our tours are generally organised on the scheduled dates, however, if required, we can also arrange a weekday tour for larger groups (subject to availability of National Park entry tickets). If you would like to book a weekday tour, please fill in our enquiry form at the bottom of this page.

Participation requirements: swimming ability is an advantage on the tour, but not compulsory. For children under the age of 16, and for those who cannot swim, the use of a life jacket (which we provide) is compulsory throughout the tour.

Difficulty: with the help of our qualified guides, less experienced or beginner participants will have a memorable experience as well. Prior to the tour, our guides will explain in detail how to paddle and steer the canoe, which you can quickly get to grips with on the slow, peaceful stream. Depending on the size of your group, you will either be the only one in the canoe, or we may pair you up with additional guests to provide enough horsepower to move the canoe. Steering will be the job of one person per canoe, as explained during the training – if you have experience, it will most likely be you, but you can get the hang of steering quickly as a beginner as well. 🙂 Our guides will be in the first and last canoe to keep the group together, there won’t be a guide in every canoe.

Cars: cars will be parked in the parking lot at the meeting point of the tour for the duration of the tour, we will bring the drivers back here after the tour in our van, during which time the rest of the passengers can relax at the end point of the tour.

Recommended to bring with you:

food and drink, we will stop for a short break during the tour where you can take a breather and have all your snacks

a waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers are also highly recommended (in case of rain), or a rain poncho is the absolute best, which protects both your upper body and legs when you are sitting down (you should also bring waterproof clothing for sunny weather, as water can get onto your clothes from paddling)

hat, gloves

layered clothing appropriate for the weather (base layer, sweater(s), warm winter trousers, shoes, jacket – the air’s temperature will not be affected by the water’s temperature, so dress for temperate the forecast says) + a complete change of clothes and shoes, which you can put in our van, which will take your change of clothes to the end of the tour

if you want to bring your phone to the tour, a waterproof phone case

Mobile toilets are available at the start point of the tour, at the halfway point where we take a break, and at the end point of the tour.

Weather: údepending on the current weather, it is important to be prepared for low temperatures, possible wind, rain! The tour will be carried out in rainy weather as well.

➜ Things to do around Hévíz

Below we have collected some activities in and around Hévíz, which, if combined with a canoe tour, can make a whole weekend (or even more) in this steamy, wonderful place. Prices shown are as of November 2025.

Wellness: Lake Hévíz Bath
Hévízi-tó - Tófürdő

Source: heviz.hu

The most obvious (and one of the coolest) activity is definitely taking a dip in Lake Hévíz – in winter it is particularly atmospheric to plunge into the 20 00-22 000 year-old lake, which shares an ancient history with Lake Balaton, and enjoy all its healing powers. Or even the mere fact that you are not sitting in a chlorinated pool, but in a completely natural warm lake with a surface area of 6.5 football pitches, whose spring 38.5 metres below you is pouring out medicinal water at a rate that naturally replaces the water in the lake in 72 hours.

Good to know: bathing in the lake is not recommended for children under 12 years of age, Kehidakustány is more suitable for small children in winter.

Important: from 3 November 2025 Lake Hévíz Bath is only accessible from the entrance on Ady Street, through the Festetics Bath House. Bathing is only possible outdoors.

Where: Hévíz, Ady Street entrance (click, Google Maps)
Winter opening hours until 8 February: 8:30-16:00 (the bath closes at 16:30)
Winter opening hours from 9 February: 9:00-17:00 (the bath closes at 17:30)
Prices: 2 hours: 2 800 HUF / 2 hours + wellness: 3 000 HUF / +1 hour: 1 500 HUF

Gastronomy: Hévíz Farmers’ Market
Hévízi Termelői Piac

Source: welovebalaton.hu

If you have your canoe tour on a Sunday, it’s worth coming down to Hévíz on Saturday morning to visit the farmers’ market, where, depending on the time of year, you can find practically everything from cheese to hand crafted goods to sausages, with a selection of special activities. This year, for example, there is a special bake sale and a fish dishes workshop, among other things. And a whole lot more. If you’re into sustainability, this is definitely worth a visit – locals sell local stuff, there are organic options on the fruit and veggies front, which is an extra plus point, and fresh bread is the icing on the cake. 🙂 (Well, it depends, some swear by the local wine instead.) From the bottom of our bleeding-optimistic hearts, please: prepare ahead and bring reusable bags/net/box/whatever so you won’t need a plastic bag on the spot.

Where: Hévíz, next to the big car park (click, Google Maps)
Winter opening hours: Tuesday 8:00-13:00, Thursday 12:00-17:00, Saturday 8:00-13:00

Active: Bobo Fun Park
Bobo Fun Park

Source: bobofunpark.hu

Opening in 2021, the adventure paradise will fill a void in the hearts of children and adults alike that they may not have known existed. But now. Without going into too much detail (because there really are so many things to do here): there’s kid’s bouldering, skyscraper walks, cave exploring, a ropes course, ninja course, trampoline, wall climbing (with an auto belay, no human belayer needed – how cool is that?!) – and that’s not even half of the list. There are attractions specifically designed for kids, and then there are attractions that suit all ages, and at the other end of the axis hang the experienced climbers, who are treated to wall climbs from levels 3 to 8 (outside, when the weather is good).

Good to know:
– it’s best to buy your pass online in advance
– Bring indoor sports shoes, without them you can’t enter
– for climbing, bring climbing shoes if you have them, they cannot be rented (you can only use your own equipment (harness, etc.) if you are qualified and have a certificate about it)

Where: Alsópáhok, Kolping utca, 8394 (click, Google Maps)
Distance from Hévíz: 2 km, next to the main road
Opening hours: 10:00-19:00, entry is possible in two rotations, 10:00-14:00 and 15:00-19:00
Prices: 2 900 – 8 100 HUF (4 hours, 10:00-14:00 or 15:00-19:00)

Active: Bike or hike around Hévíz
Hévíz kerékpártúra

Source: csodalatosbalaton.hu

Ha igazán aktív hétvégére vágysz (és esetleg kevesebb adrenalinra, mint amit a Fun Park ad), érdemes összekötni a kenutúrát másnap egy gyalogtúrával vagy bringatúrával, mert egyrészt a lehetőségek tárháza végtelen, másrészt a tested is hálás lesz, ha a kenutúrán átmozgatott felsőtested mellé felzárkóztatod a többi részedet is. 🙂

If you’re looking for a really active weekend (and maybe less adrenaline-rich than the Fun Park), combine the canoe tour with a hike or bike ride the next day, because the possibilities are endless and your body will thank you, since the canoe tour is mainly an upper body workout . the rest of you is still left for a proper workout. 🙂

The Hévíz tourist office (high five to them!) has put together such a great list of these two tour types that it’s pointless to write anything, because they’ve already done it all on the following two pages:

Sights: Roman ruin garden
Római kori romkert Hévízen

Turning to the attractions in Hévíz, the town and its surroundings have been a popular destination for a very long time – no wonder that Roman people were already relaxing here in the 1st century. The ruin garden, hiding in Attila utca, is also the place to go for all the monuments and remains: a villa of 1000+ m2 built around 100 AD with hot, lukewarm and cold water pools (Roman emperors knew how to live, huh), farm buildings blended into the landscape, the shrine of Mithras to the Persian god Mithras, imperial coins, a villa-like building, and some more modern statues, which also show a slice of Hévíz’s history.

Gastronomy: wine cellars and restaurants in Hévíz
Egregyi pincesor

Source: csodalatosmagyarorszag.hu

The subject of wine cellars is a bit of a sore point for our hearts – the hills area of Egregy (now part of Hévíz) has been a wine growing area since Roman times: the soil, the location, everything is perfect for producing particularly fine wines in this area. The pain comes from the fact that, unfortunately, most of the cellars are closed in winter. But! All is not lost – it’s worth looking around on Google Maps beforehand and making a phone call, or even just taking a stroll through the charming streets and peeking in the window to see who’s open.

The restaurants of Hévíz are also a refuge for the aching heart, because here you have an extra chance to taste the local wine selection out of season. Some of the many restaurants that are theoretically open in winter (the suggestion is the same here – call ahead):

Sights: Rezi Castle
Rezi vár

Source: welovebalaton.hu

A little younger than the ruin garden, but with a more spectacular panorama, the Rezi Castle on the 425 metre high cliff of the Meleg-hegy is also an absolute must-see if you’re in the area. The castle was built in the late 1200s by (probably) Apor and Lukács Pécz, in several stages. The castle’s career came to an end around 1590, the most likely scenario being that the Turks, when setting the the neighbouring Tátika castle on fire, didn’t spare the castle of Rezi once they were here – efficiency never hurts in conquests. The castle offers a magnificent view of the surrounding area: the Szántó basin, the top of Tátika, the castle of Sümeg, Lake Balaton ahead, and even the buttes of the Tapolca basin.

Where: Rezi, Meleg-hegy, 8373 (click, Google Maps)
Distance from Hévíz: about 15 km
How to get there: by car and then a short hike
Opening hours: open all year round

Active: Rezi Dinosaur and Adventure Park
Rezi Dino és Kalandpark

Source: szallas.hu

If you’re exploring the castle with kids, you should also include the adventure park at Rezi, which is a great activity for children and Jurassic Park fans. It has practically everything you could want from an adventure park combined with the world of dinosaurs: a ropes course, a sliding track, a climbing wall (for kids), mini golf, a cow and bull rodeo, a treasure hunt, and much more. (Just to be clear, this park is not the best for genuine dinosaur enthusiasts.)

Where: Rezi, 73162, 8373 (click, Google Maps)
Distance from Hévíz: about 11 km
Winter opening hours: 10:00-15:00
Prices: 4 500 – 5 000 HUF

Wellness: Kehida Thermal Adventure Bath and Spa
Kehida Termál Gyógy- és Élményfürdő

Source: kehidatermal.hu

If you miss the opening hours of Lake Hévíz (as we usually do), or just want a more conventional swim, there is a closer option before Zalakaros: take a dip in Kehidakustány! The water is warm, you can enjoy the thermal bath in the evening without crowds, and in the current situation it is a rare treasure that they are still open. We loved the evening relaxation here, and our immune system sends a high-five to the warm pool outside.

Where: Kehidakustány, Kossuth Lajos u. 62, 8784 (click, Google Maps)
Distance from Hévíz: about 15 km
Opening hours: 9:00-20:00
Prices: 2 100 – 9 950 HUF
